Practice and Parent Support
A peaceful, age-appropriate routine helps students remember what they learn and makes playing more enjoyable. Practice should grow gradually as the student develops.
Books and Assignments
Music books are the student’s primary lesson text. Please bring every current book and folder to each lesson, keep them in usable condition, and replace materials that are lost or damaged. Families experiencing financial hardship may speak privately with Ms. Kay.
Students should practice only the music and exercises Ms. Kay has assigned. Please do not move ahead or begin new songs before Ms. Kay introduces them.
A Gentle Practice Progression
- Book One: No formal practice requirement.
- Book Two: One to two minutes, about three repetitions, once daily is sufficient.
- As skills grow: Build toward approximately five minutes and then ten minutes.
- Lower-intermediate students: Approximately 15–20 minutes.
- Self-motivated students: May choose 30–60 minutes.
If practice becomes stressful, it is appropriate to rest and return later.
Parent-Verified Practice Streaks
- Once daily for up to three minutes: Grab Box after 30 consecutive days.
- Twice daily for up to four minutes: Milestone reward after 15 consecutive days.
- Three times daily for 7–10 minutes: Grand Mystery Gift Prize after 60 consecutive days.
A parent or guardian verifies the streak, and the student reports the completed milestone to Ms. Kay.
How Families Can Help
Choose a calm practice time, help the student remember the assigned plan, encourage patient repetition, and celebrate honest effort. Parents do not need to reteach the lesson; steady, positive support is the goal.
